Robert Half is partnered with a Fortune 500 energy company with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and community impact, seeking an experienced Tax Attorney to join its in-house legal team. This role will provide strategic legal counsel on corporate tax matters, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term business planning. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of federal, state, and local tax law, coupled with the ability to provide business-oriented solutions in a complex, regulated industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise the company on federal, state, local, and property tax matters, including tax planning, compliance, and controversy.
• Provide legal support to the Tax organization on corporate transactions, financing, and business initiatives.
• Partner with business units to assess tax implications and structure strategies that support operational and financial goals.
• Lead or coordinate cross-functional teams on tax-related projects.
• Draft and review legal documents, memoranda, and tax-related agreements.
• Monitor changes in tax law and regulations, advising the company on compliance and strategic impact.
• Manage outside counsel relationships and represent the company in interactions with tax authorities, as needed.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Michigan
• Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in corporate tax law, ideally with both planning and controversy work.
• LL.M. in Taxation or CPA credential preferred but not required.
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and lead cross-functional projects.
