RF Optimization Engineer

Atlanta/TN / Alabama/NC areas

The RF Optimization Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the performance, stability, and optimization of Verizon’s Ericsson LTE and 5G NR RAN in the Atlanta market. This includes system parameter tuning, troubleshooting network degradations, and implementing solutions to improve KPIs, throughput, and customer experience. The engineer will work closely with Verizon’s regional performance, RF, and engineering teams to meet coverage, capacity, and quality objectives.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5–7 years of RF Optimization experience with LTE and VoLTE, including Ericsson RAN systems.
  • 5g standalone exp with upto Layer 3 messaging expertise
  • Strong hands-on experience with Ericsson OSS/ENM for parameter changes and feature implementation.
  • Proficiency with RF analysis and post-processing tools (e.g., Actix, TEMS, Nemo, Datapro, Irisview).
  • Expertise in Ericsson LTE/5G features, parameters, and troubleshooting methodologies .
  • Strong understanding of LTE/5G KPIs and their impact on user experience.
  • Experience in interference analysis and mitigation.
  • Knowledge of propagation modeling tools (e.g., Atoll, Geoplan).
  • Strong Excel/Office skills for reporting and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cluster-level and market-level RF optimization for LTE/VoLTE and 5G NR.
  • Conduct drive test analysis (pre/post) to evaluate network performance and implement corrective actions.
  • Optimize Ericsson LTE/NR RAN parameters, features, and handover strategies.
  • Monitor KPIs and proactively identify/resolve network degradations (e.g., dropped calls, poor VoLTE MOS, PCI/RSRP/CINR issues).
  • Perform antenna optimization including azimuth, tilt, and height adjustments.
  • Investigate and resolve interference cases (co-channel, adjacent-channel, intermodulation).
  • Support new site integration, carrier additions, small cells, and DAS deployments.
  • Work with Real Estate/Construction for coverage improvements and capacity expansions.
  • Analyze VoLTE performance , including call setup, handovers, and quality metrics.
  • Provide recommendations for parameter changes in Ericsson OSS/ENM and validate improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (NOC, Design, Operations, and Vendors) for troubleshooting and project delivery.
  • Support special events optimization and temporary capacity solutions.
  • Document optimization changes, parameter updates, and performance improvements.

Preferred Skills

  • VoLTE optimization experience with Ericsson RAN (MOS, RTCP stats, SRVCC).
  • Experience with Python/SQL scripting for automation and performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with 5G NR design and optimization (NSA/SA).
  • Knowledge of in-building/DAS solutions and small cell optimization.
  • Experience supporting special events RF optimization .
