Job Description

Akkodis is seeking a skilled and proactive senior manufacturing operator to work independently within a dynamic production environment. This role involves managing a variety of automated systems, troubleshooting equipment issues, maintaining production documentation, and mentoring junior team members. You’ll play a key role in process improvement and daily operations while ensuring safety and quality standards are consistently met.

Pay range: $50,000-$60,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate diverse types of automated machinery with minimal supervision, consistently meeting established performance targets.
  • Conduct fundamental troubleshooting and minor mechanical repairs to maintain equipment performance.
  • Recommend and support enhancements to existing processes and workflows.
  • Coach and guide newer team members to build team capability.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate production and maintenance records; resolve inconsistencies in documentation.
  • Contribute to ongoing operational improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Take the lead in small group efforts focused on equipment performance and reliability.
  • Perform regular reviews and updates of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Carry out preventive maintenance tasks by closely following detailed instructions and task plans.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality control measures in the work area.
  • Flex across different job duties within the department in response to changing operational needs.
  • Hold peers accountable to team expectations and production standards.
  • Actively pursue development opportunities for personal growth and support team development.
  • Share knowledge and provide on-the-job training for colleagues.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in navigating and teaching the use of various production-related digital platforms (e.g., ERP systems, document control software, Microsoft Office applications).
  • Comfortable supporting special requests related to new product or process trials.
  • Deep understanding of the function and operation of automated manufacturing equipment and control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with acute attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with systems including pneumatic, hydraulic, vision, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and robotic automation.
  • Understands lockout/tagout procedures and equipment safety protocols.
  • Confident leading daily huddles or operational updates, with the ability to escalate issues appropriately.
  • Competent in compiling and communicating daily performance metrics during shift transitions.
  • Able to coordinate small team efforts on moderately complex tasks (e.g., product sorting, rework initiatives).
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a focus on mentoring and team building.

Education & Training

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a technical certification, registered apprenticeship, or equivalent on-the-job experience preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience working in high-speed automated production, packaging, or formulation environments.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing execution and enterprise systems (e.g., ERP platforms like SAP).
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Consistent adherence to safety practices and operational standards (e.g., GMP, ISO).
  • Hands-on experience with automation and mechanical troubleshooting, including PLCs and robotics.
  • Exposure to structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Analysis, FMEA).
  • Willingness to work a rotating "Fireman's Shift": two 12-hour day shifts followed by two 12-hour night shifts.
