Job Description

Summary of Job Duties

The Microbiome & Bacterial Immunology Laboratory in the Department of Animal Science investigates the host–microbiome interface in livestock, with a focus on bacterial translocation from the gut to low-microbial-load tissues, host immune responses, and strategies to reduce antibiotic dependence.

We are seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician to support molecular biology, microbiome analysis, bacterial isolation/culture, and immunology-based workflows.

Prior experience in molecular biology or microbiome research is preferred but not required. Comprehensive training will be provided.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, or a related field

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and record-keeping

• Willingness to learn new techniques and follow SOPs

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred (not required)

• Experience with DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, or microbiome workflows

• Familiarity with aerobic/anaerobic bacterial culture techniques

• Experience in histology or immunohistochemistry (IHC)

• Basic data-handling skills (Excel or Google Sheets; exposure to R or Python is a plus)

Salary Information

Approximately $50,000 annually , plus full benefits.
