2nd shift CNC Machinist

Fort Collins, CO

Description

Shift: 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM / Monday to Thursday (Fridays off)

5% shift differential

Position/Job Summary

Sets up and operates numerically controlled horizontal/vertical lathe/mill to perform machining operations (turning, boring, facing, threading) using castings, billet, and bar stock. Reads process sheets/work instructions and blueprints to determine machining to be performed.

Essential Functions

  • Sets up, programs, and operates equipment as directed.
  • Completes customer product requirements as associated with work orders.
  • Determines appropriate tooling/gages for part production/inspection.
  • Performs in-process inspections as required to ensure 100% quality product.
  • Identifies discrepancies in estimated setup and run times and resolves with supervisor.
  • Responsible for document and data control of programs, tool lists, and other related data with respect to job packets/travelers.
  • Responsible for cleaning and performing general maintenance on equipment as scheduled or required.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized work area in accordance with Company programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for stopping production if a part or process problem is identified and notifying supervisor or Quality personnel.
  • Initiate nonconforming product procedures when necessary.
  • Responsible for mentoring and/or training of other personnel as assigned.
  • Responsible for identification and elimination of any unnecessary waste.
  • Responsible for ensuring production time and quantities are accurately clocked to jobs, together with shift clock in and clock out times for payroll purposes. Responsible for reviewing Daily Labor Reports for accuracy.
  • Participates in corrective and preventative activities as required.
  • Aids other Departments as necessary or required.
  • Remains productive by seeking out tasks and assisting others when slow or idle.
  • Participates in and supports the Company Quality System and all Environmental, Health, and Safety policies.
  • Responsible for participating in continuous improvement and associated training.
  • Responsible to adhere to the Company Quality Policy and to understand and follow all applicable Quality Work Instructions, Policies, and Procedures.

Requirements

Education/Skills/Abilities

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Prefer at least 1 year of machining experience
  • General programming skills.
  • Basic shop math (addition, subtraction, trigonometry) .
  • Blueprint reading and GD&T skills.
  • Ability to perform part inspection using inspection equipment.
  • Good understanding of gage calibration.
  • Ability to perform your own set-ups helpful.
  • Basic understanding of Quality Systems.
  • Technical trade certification or related experience.
  • Solid communication and teamwork skills.
  • A team player, willing to take on extra tasks as necessary and create/maintain healthy working relationships.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Working conditions are normal for both the office and manufacturing environment.
  • While performing duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand (for moderate to long periods of time), walk, use hands to handle/feel objects, and reach with hands and arms. Other frequent activities include, but are not limited to, push/pull of objects, bending, climbing, balancing, stooping, and twisting (torso).
  • Work may involve lifting materials and products up to 50 pounds.
  • Working in the manufacturing environment requires the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, and gloves. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. Long hair is required to be tied back.
